Accommodation

A block of hotel rooms have been arranged at Sheraton Kansas City Hotel at Crown Center at a discounted rate. Each guest is responsible for payment, and making their own reservation.

Please let Hil and Joe know if you have issues with this. From our experience you can only use the block for Thurs-Sunday bookings (or dates within this range). If you want to stay longer or come before you'll need to book something in addition.

The room block has been filled a number of times but we can extend it if there is enough interest - just contact Hil or Joe and let us know.

Registry

Your presence is the greatest present!

We are so grateful to have you celebrate with us. Since we’ll be traveling back to Australia by plane, we won’t be able to bring physical gifts with us and shipping can be quite costly. Because of this, we haven’t set up a traditional registry.

We truly don’t expect any gifts—having you with us is more than enough! But for those who wish to share a gift, we will have a secure card box at the wedding. Your love and support mean the most to us, and we can’t wait to celebrate together!

Things to do in Kansas city

Planning your visit for the wedding? Kansas City is a vibrant city with plenty to offer—whether you’re looking to savor great food, explore family-friendly attractions, or dive into its rich cultural history. Here’s a curated list of must-see spots and must-taste experiences!

Eat & Drink

Coffee

Start your mornings with some of Kansas City’s finest coffee roasters:

  • Messenger Coffee Co: Known for its artisanal brews and rooftop patio, it’s the perfect place to sip a latte while enjoying city views.

  • The Roasterie: Famous for its air-roasted coffee and the iconic DC-3 airplane hanging above the factory. Take a tour or just grab a cup of their signature blends.

  • Banksia Bistro: An Australian cafe - looks like they do a decent latte for my Australian friends. They also have lamingtons and sausage rolls.

Food

Kansas City’s culinary scene is a treat for foodies. Whether you crave smoky BBQ or international cuisine, there’s something for everyone:

  • Lulu’s Thai Noodle Shop: A local favorite for its flavorful Thai dishes and relaxed atmosphere.

  • Jack Stack Barbecue: A Kansas City BBQ institution, offering fall-off-the-bone ribs, burnt ends, and decadent sides.

  • Ponak’s Mexican Kitchen: Serving up hearty, authentic Mexican dishes and some of the best margaritas in town.

  • Burnt End BBQ: A cozy spot where the burnt ends are legendary—don’t miss their creamy mac and cheese, too!

  • Blvd Tavern: Modern American comfort food served in a stylish yet casual setting.

Drink

End your day with drinks at these buzzing local spots:

  • Crossroads Hotel: A chic spot with a rooftop bar offering craft cocktails and panoramic city views.

  • J. Rieger & Co.: Visit the historic distillery for a tour, tastings, and expertly crafted cocktails.

  • Casual Animal: A laid-back brewery offering small-batch beers in a friendly, community-focused space.

  • Tom’s Town Distilling Co.: Prohibition-inspired cocktails and spirits in a stylish art deco setting.

Top Things to Do with Kids

Kansas City has plenty of family-friendly activities that both kids and adults will love:

  • Legoland Discovery Center: A hands-on LEGO wonderland with interactive exhibits, rides, and a mini LEGO replica of Kansas City landmarks.

  • Science City: Located inside Union Station, this interactive science museum offers engaging exhibits, a planetarium, and endless fun for curious minds.

For History & Culture Buffs

  • National World War I Museum and Memorial: Explore the history of World War I through interactive exhibits, artifacts, and a stunning view of the city from the Liberty Memorial Tower.

  • Arabia Steamboat Museum: Discover the fascinating story of the Steamboat Arabia, which sank in 1856 and was unearthed in 1988 with its cargo intact—a modern-day treasure trove!

  • Negro Leagues Baseball Museum: Dive into the history of African American baseball, with engaging exhibits celebrating its legends and impact on the sport.

  • The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art: A world-class art museum known for its extensive collection and the iconic shuttlecock sculptures on its front lawn. Whilst you're here, check out the Kauffman Memorial Garden - just a short walk away.

Whether you're exploring the city’s culinary gems, diving into its history, or simply enjoying time with family, Kansas City promises an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!
